Cassandra stared at her mother for a moment and then shrugged. “I have spoken the words of my heart, and now I am empty.” She turned back to the line.
“Don’t forget this, my darling.” Mother passed her the copy of Jane Eyre and followed her back to rejoin Geoffrey in line. “Good afternoon, Geoffrey.”
“Good afternoon, Missus Worthington. Thank you for suggesting that we go through the tunnel together.”

Wow, her mother is determined to have this all go the way she wants it to, isn’t she? Enjoying the story, another intriguing excerpt!
Poor Cassandra. I just want to give her a hug…
I am enjoying the tone of this snippet!
Ah, Jane Eyre has spoiled many of us when it comes to big love.
Love her first line! “Words of the heart” indeed.
Geoffrey has a bit less spine, it looks like.
I wonder if she is going to take a stand against her mother.
