What’s Up Wednesday, off the waiting list!

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly blogfest to share the answers to a few simple questions… Join us!

ROCKETBORDERWhat I’m reading:

Let’s see. Still working away at my Kindle magazines, but at least I’m nearly caught up on short stories. I’ve decided to start with the shorts, (and the poetry,) then go back and try to be more selective with the novellas and novelettes, trying to figure out which are worth my time to read.

I’ve also started “Terra” by Mitch Benn, which Elizabeth was keen to loan out to somebody at the Evensies write-in, and I can see why. It’s a cool story with a British sense of humour, about an alien scientist who ends up adopting an Earthling girl and raising her on his home planet, and it’s already making me think about my ‘Kitchen Scale’ aliens in new ways. I’ve also started “Sandman Slim” on audible, and begun listening to the Escape artists podcasts.

What I’m writing:

Wrote a brand-new scene for Kitchen Scale, and started a new short story about bullies and how people might react to an alien arrival that’s still decades in the future. Also managed to tweak a little more for “Gotta Have that Look”. So basically I’m all over the place.

What inspires me right now:

Writers meeting up, whether online or in person. (I’ve been hanging out in the Codex Writers chat room whenever I can lately.) The last half-season of “How I met your mother”. John Michael Montgomery’s auction patter, of all things. Vampire Diaries from last season.

What else I’ve been up to:

Sister’s birthday get-together went well over the weekend, inclement weather notwithstanding. It was great to see her. My oldest niece is getting so grown-up! And I had a lot of fun at the Evensies write-in down at the pier on Sunday afternoon. We had eight people turn out, including one writer-adjacent, and lots of fun and writing happened.

Then the weather and the roads turned a little bit worse on Monday, and I decided that it wasn’t worth pushing my luck, so I stayed cooped up and worked from home. It actually felt good to get back to the office yesterday.

Tonight is the free writer’s workshop at Hamilton Central Library, and I got an email yesterday saying that there was a spot that had opened up if I wanted it. I immediately replied that yes, I was coming! It should be interesting to see what they have planned for us.

What about you? Click here to join the hop or check in with some other great writers.

I’m so with you on the all over the place thing when it comes to writing. Wish I could pin down one project and just run with it. I suppose any progress is a good thing, right? Writers meeting up (online or in person) is such a great thing. Definitely inspiring! Wish it happened more often. 🙂

Good luck at your workshop. I agree that it’s always wonderful hanging out with other writers, both in person and online. By nature, writers are always good story tellers, so they are always very entertaining to talk to. So even if you don’t learn anything, I’m sure the workshop will be great. But hopefully you will learn something too.

    Have a great week!
