Weekend Writing Warriors – Never Found 7

Welcome friends, followers, and Weekend Writing Warriors!

Good morning! I’m sharing eight more sentences from my Nano project “Never Found.” It’s hard to believe that November is over, isn’t it? My main character, Tricia, has been woken by a mysterious blonde stranger at her apartment…

“Could everybody in your family do magic?” Tricia prodded.

“My mom and my brothers can only change to wolf form and back,” Candice said. “Dad does that, plus some energy projection. It’s basically like being able to fire a gun, except you don’t need the gun or any bullets. Kinduv a handy trick, but also important to be careful with.”

“Change to wolf form,” Tricia repeated. “Are you telling me you’re werewolves? There are freakin’ werewolves in Toronto, really?”

Candice had a car parked across the street from Tricia’s building. It was so dark a brown as to be almost black, a four-seater with comfy seats and a flashy stereo. “Where are we headed?” Tricia asked as Candice pulled out onto the street.

“Downtown.  That’s part of the reason I came so early.”

“Okay, let’s talk,” Tricia said after a moment to confirm that Candice was indeed heading south towards the lakeshore. “You–you called what we do magic. Is that just a figure of speech, or–I don’t even know how to end that. What do you know about magic?”

“And I guess I’m curious about what it’s like when other people use magic,” Candice said. “For me, when I use the voice, I have to concentrate when I’m speaking, really emote into it like I’m up on stage, you know? I could hardly do shit until after I took drama class, if you can believe it. And it helps if I’m touching the person, or just touched them a few seconds ago.”

Tricia stormed back into the bachelorette room, fully dressed, and grabbed the flattest pair of shoes she could find. “So is that why I agreed to go with you to see this Vinny guy? You used your own mojo on me, there outside my door?”

“Well, I pushed you a little, yeah.”

Good morning! I’m sharing eight more sentences from my Nano project “Never Found”, which I started last week. My main character, Tricia, has just woken up to find a stranger at her door…

“So how does your mojo work?” Candice asked as Tricia changed. “The thing where people forget you?”

“If you’re talking about the principles behind it, bugger if I know,” Tricia grumbled.

“No, I mean, what’s it like for you?”

“Why should I tell you?”

“Well, I’m mostly making conversation because Vinny told me to if you were out of sight for a little while, like if I had to let you go to the bathroom. It’s a constant reminder, right? That doesn’t let me forget you and what I’m doing here, even though I can’t see you.”

“So, what’s Vinny’s crime?”

The blonde girl giggled. “He tries a bit of everything, but mostly he’s a thief. Like you, I think.”

“Yeah.” Tricia didn’t like the fact that these people knew about her, and she didn’t know anything about them. It was a very unfamiliar feeling. “Listen, you never gave me a name.”

“I’m here to take you to see Vinny Gibson.”

“Whoever Vinny is, he can f@*k off until I’ve had my coffee.” Tricia started to close the door, but the other girl reached out to touch her hand.

“Sorry–you want to meet Vinny. He’s a clever and powerful man, and he’s got a job for you. The kind of job that could make you rich, or earn you things that money won’t buy. This is a great opportunity you don’t want to mess up.”

Tricia stood there, a little dazed, not sure what had just happened. “Um, okay. I–I should get dressed before we go, right?”
