Weekend Writing Warriors – Never Found 7

December 14, 2014

Welcome friends, followers, and Weekend Writing Warriors!

Good morning! I’m sharing eight more sentences from my Nano project “Never Found.” It’s hard to believe that November is over, isn’t it? My main character, Tricia, has been woken by a mysterious blonde stranger at her apartment…

“Could everybody in your family do magic?” Tricia prodded.

“My mom and my brothers can only change to wolf form and back,” Candice said. “Dad does that, plus some energy projection. It’s basically like being able to fire a gun, except you don’t need the gun or any bullets. Kinduv a handy trick, but also important to be careful with.”

“Change to wolf form,” Tricia repeated. “Are you telling me you’re werewolves? There are freakin’ werewolves in Toronto, really?”

Weekend Writing Warriors – Never Found 6

Candice had a car parked across the street from Tricia’s building. It was so dark a brown as to be almost black, a four-seater with comfy seats and a flashy stereo. “Where are we headed?” Tricia asked as Candice pulled out onto the street.

“Downtown.  That’s part of the reason I came so early.”

“Okay, let’s talk,” Tricia said after a moment to confirm that Candice was indeed heading south towards the lakeshore. “You–you called what we do magic. Is that just a figure of speech, or–I don’t even know how to end that. What do you know about magic?”

What’s up Wednesday? Crashing from Nanoland back down to Earth

December 3, 2014

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly blogfest to share the answers to a few simple questions… Join us!

What I’m SnowyHousesreading:
Finished “Academ’s Fury”, just hours before the ebook expired back to the library ebook. Since then, I’ve started “Sheepfarmer’s Daughter”, one of three Paks paperbacks that my Mom gave me for my birthday, and started listening to stories via the PodCastle and Toasted Cake podcasts again. I kinda fell off fiction podcasts during November, partly because I was listening to my soundtracks so much, and the fabulous Storywonk Nano podcast; something else had to fall out, but I’ve got plenty of stories queued up on the iPhone now!

What I’m writing:
Well, I reached 60k for Nano at Wafflepalooza, and I’m really happy with where my incomplete books got to. Since December started, I haven’t done any actual writing, but I do want to work on synopsis outlines for both books, as well as getting back to the Flash Fiction course.

What works for me:
Riding the wave of Nanowrimo for a victory lap, I guess! Pulled off another 10k between Thursday and Sunday, which is pretty good.

What else I’ve been up to:
Enjoying not going out for write-ins nearly every day. Playing around with my Dana Alphasmart wordcount software a little more, with keyboard shortcuts to copy values from field to field, and changing the deletion routines so I can just delete scratchpad 2 out of 4, instead of having to delete 2, 3, and 4 all at the same time.

Nanowrimo Spotlight: Whatever you choose, as long as it’s not obscene

December 2, 2014

Greetings again, friends and followers. After a great November, I’m resting and recovering, but I have one more spotlight interview to share with you, from Sahar Sabati. Sahar has one blog here, and another for reviews.

Have you participated in Nanowrimo before?
I did NaNoWriMo twice, in 2008 and in 2014.

What are you writing about this year?
I started working on the sequel of my book, Spirit Within Club. It is a coming of age story following seven years in the life of a growing group of friends from the age of 10 to 17 as they figure out what their contributions to the betterment of their school, their families, their neighborhoods, and the world can be.

What is your favorite book – you have to pick just one!
This is always a difficult question to answer! At the moment I would say that Shoghi Effendi’s God Passes By is my favourite book.

What advice would you give to all your fellow Wrimos?
I would suggest to jump into it and make the most of an experience that is bound to make you a better member of the writing community.

Sneaky Ninja question! How will you know when you’ve reached success as a writer?
I write as a way to inspire personal and community development. I have reached success in that many of those who have read my books have reached out to me to tell me how my book has had a positive influence in their lives. Read the rest of this entry »
